An indirect water heater is composed of a boiler, oil burner, heat exchanger, storage tank, drain, and cold and hot water outlet. It uses your home’s boiler or main furnace to heat a fluid that’s then pushed through a heat exchanger inside its storage tank. An indirect water heater works even better in tandem with a high-efficiency boiler and well-insulated tank. These all combine to maximize your home’s energy efficiency because your furnace will need to turn off and on less often!
Indirect water heaters are often heated using gas, solar energy, propane, oil, electric, or a combination of these. And don’t even worry about your air conditioning system: Our indirect water heaters work perfectly with any radiant floor heating or forced air systems!
There are tons of advantages to indirect water heaters, especially in older homes. Here are a few of the main ones:
An indirect water heater would be right for your home if you’re looking to reduce your energy use and monthly bills. If your home doesn’t have a flue or separate gas line, it doesn’t matter, because indirect water heaters do not require one!
However, if your home has a forced air furnace, it won’t be able to heat the exchange pipes in an indirect water heater. Also, if you don’t require a lot of hot water in your home, an indirect water heater may not be the best choice as they usually have at least a 30-gallon tank.
