SpacePak Provides AC for an English Tudor Home in the Chicago Area
The vintage homes found in the North Shore area have a structural charm and distinctive features that aren’t often found in modern architecture. Their spacious layouts are ideally suited to today’s lifestyle, and people who invest in them say they wouldn’t live anywhere else.
However, because these houses were designed and built before the advent of central heating and air conditioning, they also share another distinct feature: small duct systems. For a long time, people who wanted to invest in an updated HVAC system needed to retrofit their homes with larger ductwork, an often cost-prohibitive approach that required extensive modification to existing structures.
That all changed with the introduction of SpacePak, a small duct air distribution system that can be installed without major remodeling in virtually any home or space. If you’re considering upgrading your older home’s existing AC or are installing central air for the first time, SpacePak is a terrific choice.
As the top installer of SpacePak systems in the nation, we stand behind this product here at American Vintage Home. We’ve installed countless of these systems in older homes throughout our area, seeing exceptional results every time.
What Is SpacePak?
SpacePak systems are designed to blend in with your home’s decor, remove 30% more humidity than conventional systems, and provide uniform comfort in every room of your home.
The innovative system features three components:
- Flexible ductwork
- An air handler
- A condensing unit
SpacePak’s small, 2-inch flexible ducts can be fed through floors, walls, and ceilings to accommodate any vintage home’s layout.
Small Duct System: A Practical Solution for Central Air
The SpacePak system has changed many Chicago North Shore homeowners’ lives, including those of our Des Plaines customers who live in a beautiful Tudor home across from Cornell Park. The home was recently featured in a company case study explaining the installation process and how the small duct system now provides the comfort the customer desires.
Our customer’s home was originally built in 1928 and features a blend of eclectic and asymmetrical Old World styles. While previous owners had installed a small duct central AC system in the 1980s, by 2015, the system had reached the end of its useful life span. It was time to replace the outdated system with a newer, more energy-efficient one.
After consulting with the American Vintage Home team, the current homeowners decided to replace their home’s entire existing system with a high-performance SpackPak installation that would provide the optimal solution to their comfort concerns. The upgrade, designed to meet the latest Department of Energy energy-efficiency standards, included the attic-based internal air handler and the external condensing unit.
While there were several challenges having to do with the original duct layout and supply runs, our team handled the issues with constant and open communication with the homeowners. A factory-direct site visit was also scheduled to review the installation parameters and address any of the homeowners’ concerns.
After a full load calculation was completed, all existing components were removed and the new equipment, including individual supply runs, was installed to SpacePak specifications. In just four days, the homeowners were reaping the benefits and enjoying the consistent performance of their new system.
